The Institute of Engineering and Technology, Lucknow, referred to hereafter as “IET” and popularly recognized as the “Engineering College” in Lucknow, stands as one of the preeminent and highly regarded institutions among all technical establishments affiliated with Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam Technical University, Lucknow, hereafter denoted as “AKTU.” IET was founded by the Government of Uttar Pradesh in 1984 as an institution governed by a society. Its financial support is derived from the Government of Uttar Pradesh, and its administration is overseen by the Executive Council of AKTU.

The inception of IET Lucknow traces its origins to the establishment of the ‘Faculty of Engineering and Technology’ under the aegis of the University of Lucknow. Commencing in the year 1984, the institute initially offered Bachelor of Technology (B. Tech.) degrees across three programs: Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Electronics & Communication Engineering. In the subsequent year, the institute expanded its offerings to encompass B. Tech. programs in Civil Engineering and Mechanical Engineering.
The physical infrastructure of the IET campus, situated on a sprawling 100-acre (0.40 km2) parcel of land, was meticulously developed by the Uttar Pradesh Rajkiya Nirman Nigam Ltd (UPRNN), facilitated by the government of Uttar Pradesh. The campus comprises essential facilities, including Administrative Blocks, Academic Blocks, Boys’ and Girls’ Hostels, as well as nearly 100 residential accommodations designated for Teaching and Non-Teaching Staff Members. The Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) played a pivotal role in providing vital support for the construction of external roads, electrical supply, drainage, and sewage systems integral to the functioning of the institute.
Admission of undergraduate students to IET Lucknow is conducted through the Uttar Pradesh State Entrance Examination (UPSEE). Candidates secure admission based on their rankings in this examination, which is currently administered by AKTU. Annually, a substantial cohort of approximately 150,000 students participate in the UPSEE, all striving for admission to one of the 800 engineering colleges affiliated with AKTU. Remarkably, IET stands as a highly favored institution among top-ranking candidates during the UPSEE counseling process.
